Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle has been serving our community since 1977.

As an independent local organization, we rely on contributions from our community to keep our wheels turning, since we receive a very small percentage of state and federal funding for its operating budget. Some clients can pay the full cost of their meals and the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) and InnovAge PACE each provide subsidies for a small number of clients who meet their eligibility requirements. However, most of our clients are on low or fixed incomes and are not able to pay for our services — which is where your donations come in!

Each donation we receive goes directly towards our mission, which is simple yet profound: to serve our clients with a hot, nutritious meal, a friendly visit, and a vital wellness check to our community’s most vulnerable. With each delivery, we offer a lifeline of care, community, and connection to those who struggle to access or prepare food for themselves.

More than just a meal

Meals on Wheels offers our homebound neighbors a chance for friendly social interaction, a reminder to eat or even to get out of bed, a safety check to make sure nothing is wrong, and a message that their community really cares.

Take Action

Whether you are interested in volunteering weekly or whenever your schedule permits, as little as an hour of your time can be a priceless gift to those who rely on Meals on Wheels to deliver.

*Currently, we receive less than 2% of our annual budget from one county grant and no funding from state or federal grants, Meals on Wheels America, or the Older Americans Nutrition Act.
