Updates for Volunteers

Health Department Reminder

clockTime & Mileage:

We'll be collecting time & mileage again this month.  Thanks in advance for calling in the information, filling out the data collection form (you can leave the information in your carriers) or faxing us.

We know that it's a bit of an extra effort on your part, but the process ensures that we're able to maintain our license to deliver food, an essential component of our program!

Mayors for Meals

huja-mugOn Wednesday, March 21, 2012, the Honorable Satyendra Huja will be delivering meals with us and in so doing bring awareness to the problem of senior hunger right here in our own community.  Mayor Huja was involved in the original founding of our local Meals on Wheels and we are delighted to announce that he will be delivering meals again in celebration of the national Mayors for Meals Campaign, sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA).   On this designated day, American mayors across the country will show their support for the Meals On Wheels program in their city by delivering meals to seniors.

Volunteer Profile

NancyOur featured volunteer is Nancy Schmoyer, who has been a dedicated volunteer since May 2001.  Nancy served for many years as a weekly driver and then shifted gears to became a senior meal packer at KCRC.  She also volunteers at the Emergency Food Bank where her husband Fred serves on the board.

Nancy and Fred have 2 children, 1 step-daughter, and 3 step-grandchildren.  Her hobbies include gardening, knitting and felting hats and purses for sale in Richmond and Charlottesville.  We're thrilled that Nancy enjoys volunteering at Meals on Wheels, since we enjoy her company; her dry wit makes routine work much more enjoyable!
